You can't help be impressed by the scale of the lava fields as you drive through Timanfaya National Park. ‘Awesome’ as the Americans would say.

There is a coach trip that takes you to the rim of a volcano but also make sure you take in the visitors centre just down the road.

It explains how volcanoes erupt and has a depiction of what a volcanic eruption looks like. Also there is boardwalk which takes you into the middle of a lava field.

Well worth a stop.
